Soft watercolour painting in deep blue and pale cream tones suggesting a quiet evening jazz mood

Earlier Recording

Previous Release

Before Other Side of the Tracks, The Blue Heron Trio had already put out an album of its own. The 2015 recording is available for listening and purchase on CD Baby.

The First Album

This earlier record captures the trio in its early years together, blending jazz and pop with the lounge sensibility the band is known for. In 2011 three close friends came together in Dayton, Ohio, drawing on their combined 20 years of playing in punk, pop, folk, jazz, and cover bands.

The material leans on standards and easy listening favorites — the same relaxed, cocktail-hour mood the trio still brings to the stage today.

This page looks back at the Blue Heron Trio's previous recording, an album released before their later work on the Other Side of the Tracks. The 2015 recording is offered for listening and purchase through CD Baby, with additional ways to hear it including a YouTube playlist and the band's Facebook page. It serves as a document of the trio's early period together, when the musicians were still working out the sound that would later define their cocktail hour jazz performances in Dayton, Ohio and beyond.

The earliest album reflects a band of three close friends who began playing together in Dayton in 2011, pooling roughly two decades of experience across punk, pop, folk, jazz, and cover bands. Rather than standard songbook jazz, the material leans toward a lounge sensibility, mixing jazz and pop standards with an easy, stylish mood suited to weddings, corporate parties, and club settings. Revisiting this record gives longtime fans a chance to hear the trio's lounge roots before their more polished contemporary approach arrived.
